Civil Engineering is one of the most traditional engineering studies in India. CIVIL engineering comes under core branch. First year of Civil Engineering students will learn about the basic engineering techniques such as Engineering Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Fundamentals of Computing and Engineering Drawing. From second year onwards the student starts learning about the core subjects. Few of the subjects taught in these 6 semesters are Fluid Mechanics, Soil Mechanics, Design of Structures, Structural Mechanics, Water Recourse Engineering, and Transportation Engineering.
The course is of 4 years, divided into first year and 6 semesters each of about 6 months. At the end of 1st year and each semester an examination is held to judge the understanding of the students in those year/six months.
To get admission in to B. Tech in Civil Engineering under convener quota one needs to clear the entrance examination conducted by the State Government. For management quota the General criteria are that one should be 10 + 2 passed with 50% aggregate and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the optional subjects.
Today's civil engineers are in the forefront of technology. They are the leading users of sophisticated high-tech products – applying the very latest concepts in computer-aided design (CAD) to support design, construction, project scheduling, and cost control. These projects might include the development and construction of bridges, tunnels, roads, railways, dams and major buildings. Civil engineers are problem solvers, meeting the challenges of pollution, traffic congestion, drinking water and energy needs, urban redevelopment. The civil engineer has a vital role to play in improving the quality of life for the 21st century.
Associated Engineering Consultants, construction companies like Larsen & Toubro Ltd., Railways, Engineers India Ltd., DRDO, ISRO, SERC, RAMKY and JAIPYEE Group are to name few companies and organizations that offer jobs to civil engineering students.
Apart from some of these private companies many of the public sector undertakings are also giving jobs to civil engineers. Few of them are as follows: Engineers India limited, Bharath Heavy Engineering Limited, Electronics Corporation of India, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, ONGC, SAIL, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.
